  1. How does one apply to enter?

    Registration of candidates is completed on the basis of a mailed-in portfolio of materials comprising as complete a presentation as possible. These include:
    • a personally signed copy of the competition Regulation;

    • a biography in English (in Polish as well, in the case of Polish contestants) written in the 3rd person singular, 120 maximum. make it concise and the essence of it!
    • press materials, translated to English (reviews, articles, interviews, quotes) as well as the scans of it;
    • three high-quality digital photographs on CD (2MB maximum), for press purposes;
    • audio material (20 minutes' worth) depicting a variety of repertoire selections that is characteristic and currently representative of the performer, in 5 copies on CD;
    • verification of payment of 50 Euro to the account of the Kontrapunkt Association:

      The registration fee is not refundable.

    Pay registration fee with PayPal system:

    Portfolios should be received within six weeks after your electronic registration was made. The absolute deadline is the 15th of August 2010!

  2. Who will be chosen?

    The Competition is intended for vocalists born after January 1, 1970
    12 semi-finalists will be selected on the basis of materials from their mailed-in "portfolios". The selection will be carried out by members of a jury made up of experienced jazz vocalists as well as music journalists.
    The factors to be considered will be: overall musicality, performance style, technical abilities, general cohesion of repertoire and originality.
    The order of appearances at the competition will be established on a random basis, and will be announced one month prior to its opening.
  3. How will it proceed?

    • THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY - SEMIFINALS
    • 45 min REHEARSALS WITH THE FESTIVAL RHYTHM SECTION IN THE EARLYAFTERNOON (12.00-17.00);
    • 30-MINUTE AUDITIONS FOR 12 SELECTED PARTICIPANTS IN A CONCERT HALL (300 PEOPLE CAPACITY). FOUR CANDIDATES WILL BE AUDITIONED EACH DAY. THEAUDITIONS WILL START AT 19.00;
    • SUNDAY - FINALS;
    • COMPETITIVE PHASE (20-MINUTE PRESENTATIONS BY THREE SELECTED FINALISTS preceded by 30 min rehearsals);
    • BREAK AND JURY DELIBERATIONS;
    • ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS;
    • PRESENTATION OF AWARDS;
    • FINAL CONCERT (THE WINNER PRESENTS HIM OR HERSELF IN A PERFORMANCE OF ONE PIECE).
  4. What are the prizes?

    • 1st Prize - 2000 EURO and an appearance by the competition's winner at the Zory "EASYJAZZ FESTIVAL" in 2011.
    • 2nd Prize - 1000 EURO
    • 3rd Prize - 500 EURO
  5. Organizers' commitments

    • The organizers will provide accommodations and food for all of the competition's participants from the day before their presentation through the day of the finals.
    • The organizer will provide at least one experienced, professional rhythm section including: piano, bass and drums.
    • The organizer will record all the presentations and reserves the right to use the recorded material freely for further promotion of the VOICINGERS competition.
    • Each participant will be entitled to 45 min rehearsal with the rhythm section, on the competition's main stage with full PA on the day of their presentation.
  6. Competition participants' commitments

    • Each participant will be obliged to perform their competition presentation on the date selected by the organizers.
    • Each participant will be obliged to sign copy of the competition Regulations, which will be considered as an agreement for what it contains.
    • Each participant will be obliged, upon being accepted to the competition, to present to the promoter the list of songs planned for the performance along with the sheet music for the rhythm section.

    Attention!

    Make sure you come up with your original arrangements! Once you come up with something make sure it is simple and providing with room for making music. The rhythm section is not your regular band which evidently translates itself into: "The more complicated the arrangements are the further you are from the chill..."
